E-Bd Negotiates Agreement to Save 39 Recreation Officers Jobs

12/18/2009

We are pleased to announce that we reached an agreement with the DOC to save the careers of  39 Recreation Officers.  The  agreement  simply allows the DOC to expand the duties of R.O.s  for an 18 month period in order to defray overtime costs.

When the government announced it's 9 c cuts we were asked to participate in a furlough program at which time we notified them that we were not willing to give back any of our negotiated benefits.  We stood firm in our position and that  lead to the DOC plan to lay off 39 veteran officers.  Negotiations followed and we were successful in reaching the agreement without giving anything back to the department.

The Executive Board  thanks  R.O. stewards Larry Givens and Marty Murphy for their participation in the negotiations which was key in helping us to reach the negotiated settlement.

On behalf of the Executive Board,

Hank Harris,
Executive Secretary
